Week 15 - I’m Running

15 09 2008

Well, I’m not exactly running but I’ve done a few strides (a few short runs to the car in parking lot). No intense push-off but things are looking promising. My one-legged strength on the left side still has way to go so I won’t be starting any full scale running until that comes back. It would be totally foolish to do otherwise at this point.

The Achilles itself is not sore, but I still get a bunch of heel pain if I am on my feet too long. Making use of the Achillotrain and various insoles helps.

Physio still consists of: hydrobath, deep massage (still working on reducing that bump), ultrasound, and laser.

I’ve finally upped my weekly workout time to 5 hours. I don’t feel any motivation to start training yet because I miss running. I’ve got to start making a dent in the weight loss department so I wrote myself a program today to keep myself honest. The program takes me to January 2009, where I plan to start running (for real) and my training for Ironman Lake Placid in July.

Til next week.

Thanks for reading.

Hoss,

Glad to hear things are moving along. You are at the point where custom made orthotics would make a world of difference. Ask you physician to refer you to a podiatrist or chiropractor and look into it. Takes a lot of stress off the leg, absorbs impact when running and helps to stabilize the area.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Sweet! What’s your ankle flexibility like? Is it close to your good leg?

Hobblit,
Everything is the same except: the strength, swelling, scar tissue and unsightly surgery incisions.

Doc Ross,
I agree with you 100% and have a referral to a podiatrist all set to go. I just wont do it because they are charging $800 for the orthotics. That is way too much in my opinion. Even with my insurance coverage, I’m still forking over $500. That is why I’m experimenting with various insoles, arch supports, etc. If I was swimming in cash I wouldn’t hesitate at all. I appreciate all your informative posts/comments by the way.

Hi Hoss

Just two weeks behind you.I am able to walk with a limp and carrying on stretching exercises.
I wear an anklet for support.
I can stand on my operated leg.I can stand only on my left toe with some support and for about 5 seconds without any support as it starts paining.

Keep posting
Hoping for a good recovery for you and me toooooooo!
